Shrimp Pickle Easy Quick Fix Recipe

Shrimp Pickle, "Chanda Maushi Style": Gosh its been a decade since I have been trying to make a perfect shrimp pickle. I tried many different recipes from many different books and sure there were more people who gave me even more recipes.....

Before I tell you my story about this famous Shrimp Pickle, I will give you one tip, don't believe in everything that the book recipe says, use your brain and don't be afraid to experiment. It is very important that you read the recipe and imagine what it will taste like in your mind. No I am not going crazy here when I say that, it takes time to train your mind a little but if I can do it I am sure you can too.

...So anyways back to the real Shrimp Pickle story. Many years back when we were in Delhi, I guess I was just 8 years old or so, we received a parcel form my Chanda Maushi(aunt)and with some clothes and other goodies there was this bottle full of,yeah "Shrimp pickle" which looked so tempting and as tempting as it looked, it tasted even better, so good that I could have eaten it all by myself. It was a pickle to die for and frankly we had never had a shrimp pickle before so even more reason to pounce on it. I still remember that the same day we got the parcel, we had some guests over and like it is said in India "Athithi Devo Bhav"(Guests should be treated like God), we had to share this yummy pickle with them. Now they had a small boy who just fell in love with this pickle and it was only a matter of few minutes before we realized, half the pickle was over. So anyways that pickle was history soon. Mom asked my maushi(aunt) as to who had made the pickle and she told her that it was made by her. But for some reason or the other my mom was never able to get the right recipe from her. Even though my mom couldn't get the recipe, because I pestered her so much she made many attempts to make it the same way, but none of those attempts could beat that pickle. Years passed by and not that I had forgotten that pickle but other important things just pushed it some where back in my mind. When I grew up, I must have made some attempts of making shrimp pickle, not particularly trying to make it like Chanda Maushi style but just for the sake of making a pickle.
Then just recently when I was doing one of my Chef experiments, it just so happened that I had some shrimps at home and after pondering for some time I thought of making an easy shrimp pickle. I had most of the ingredients that usually went in pickles, like the pickle powder(masala) which I usually make ahead of time and use it as and when needed, comes really handy like at this time. So I just put my things together and made this Shrimp Pickle and the moment I tasted it, it just brought back memories of that amazing pickle that I had tasted years back. This by far was the closest ever to that mind blowing pickle I had in childhood. It just had the right measurements and right ingredients that clicked. This shrimp pickle was so good, my hubby even licked up the bowl and funny that this pickle which was meant for lasting long, lasted only till dinner. Sometimes the most simplest things taste better than the most complex ones. So now here was the story of Shrimp Pickle, Chanda Maushi style and hence this post here is for you Chanda Maushi who is one great cook in our family!!!!.
